You’ve probably heard about the vampire lift treatment for damaged and wrinkled skin. The same type of procedure can actually stimulate hair growth. Although it can’t reactivate follicles, it can indeed encourage thicker, fuller hair strands from active follicles. This is good news for those who suffer from pattern baldness or otherwise thinned hair strands.
Known as Platelet Rich Plasma therapy, or PRP, this is an outpatient treatment regimen that uses the client’s own blood as a growth-stimulating mechanism. Hair loss is caused by the clogging of follicles, poor circulation and aging scalp skin. With the help of PRP therapy, you can restore your hair to its more youthful, naturally full condition.
What is Platelet Rich Plasma?
Blood platelets help stop bleeding because they react with air. An open wound that is bleeding eventually closes because the blood thickens and finally solidifies. However, platelets are also protein rich and contain other compounds that are suitable growth factors. When platelets are concentrated, they act as a stimulus for healthier tissue growth in the surrounding regions.
Sometimes, PRP is used as an injectable to stimulate healthier skin growth and reduce the signs of aging, such as wrinkled or discolored skin. It can also be used on the scalp to promote healthier hair growth. Receding hairlines and male pattern baldness – which affects both males and females – can be successfully treated with PRP therapy.
In most cases, the scalp is subjected to a micro needling process and the PRP is rubbed onto the affected area. The second part of the treatment generally involves actual injections of the PRP beneath the scalp.
At the beginning of the session, we draw a small amount of blood from the client. The blood is spun in a centrifuge, with the red cells becoming separated from the plasma and platelets. The PRP is then combined with a fibrin mix before being added to the scalp.
What to Expect After Treatment
After three or four sessions, most clients notice increased fuzziness in the treated areas. The fuller, thicker hair won’t grow faster than normal, so it takes at least two months for the hairs to become an inch or more in length.
Special care of the scalp is required after the sessions are complete. We may prescribe a specialized cleansing and exfoliating ointment or cream. However, the client can usually resume normal shampooing and other hair care immediately.
