The previous fillers discussed, Juvederm®, Voluma® and Radiesse® are thick fillers for the correction of moderate to severe wrinkles. As such they are injected relatively deeply into the skin (mid to deep dermis). As we know some people have superficial lines around the upper lip or for example around the corners of the mouth. These type of wrinkles are not well addressed by the above mentioned fillers. A filler is needed that is thin and can be injected more on the surface in order to fill in the lines. This is where Belotero® Balance comes in.
Belotero® Balance is a relatively new player on the market as far as fillers are concerned. Belotero® is a hyaluronic acid , however it is the thinnest of all hyaluronic acids. Belotero® was specifically designed to fill in superficial lines, such as the vertical lip lines, also called “smoker’s lines” on the upper lip. What makes Belotero® desirable for that purpose is that it is thin enough to be injected very superficially, thereby giving a much smoother appearance, without elevating the entire lip and creating a “duck lip”, a look we all are trying to avoid. Another area where Belotero® is being used very effectively is for chin lines , as well as the ” tear trough” or the hollowness under the eyes that makes us look so tired. The tear trough area is very delicate and a filler that is thick can cause lumps, bumps , or swelling.
Belotero® Balance is injected with a very fine needle and immediately plumps up the skin. The results can be appreciated instantaneously.
Side effects of injecting Belotero® are bruising and swelling as with all fillers and Belotero® lasts about 6 months or more.
